I’m growing pumpkins at the moment. I know this isn’t a pumpkin but look at those colours!
This was painted by the author George Brookshaw (track down George Brookshaw: The Case Of The Vanishing Cabinet-Maker, Apollo, from May 1991 if you can), and comes from what’s widely regarded to be one of the best books of fruit drawings EVER, all dating from 1804-1807.
George died with £100 in the bank, at a time when a copy of one of his books would have cost £100. He left a note to his daughter to try to recover lost funds from the publishers.
